DESIGN PRINCIPLES
Graphic Design Basics explains to the reader that there are certain aspects and certain processes on how to achieve your goals as a designer. They showed us these ideas by telling us about the basic elements of graphic design as well as the basic principles. Under each header we dive deeper into learning about how to master the art of graphic design to really catch the audience's eye. While reading this article I knew that color was a big factor, because last semester in my communications class we learned how companies use color to lure in certain audiences. Also, the reading about how the size of an element can change the meaning of importance, stood out to me and made a lot of sense asI am always the one to click on the biggest texts, because it looks the most interesting or important. I think that learning about balance is important, because it allows your designs to be neat and organized and also be visually pleasing. I think every designer should listen to this principle because it is helpful to also understand that not everything needs to be perfectly organized and that sometimes it makes certain things stand out more if you highlight or make them bigger or put them “out of place”. I had one question about the repetition principle, because I always thought that repetition was bad and could cause an audience to lose focus. So, in the article are they just talking about the design aspect for repetition or do they mean the text on a website or an app?
The article The Do’s and Don’ts of Graphic Design explains to readers how to create a graphic design that is different, yet still within the rules of design. The author goes through a series of the do's and don'ts while still allowing each designer to be their own creative selves. One idea I knew before reading this article was that you should not ignore your customer’s request. You have to design to make an audience happy at all times while putting your own spark to it. I think that the part about trusting your instincts is really important for a life as a designer. I think by being a designer you should be able to take risks and be about to trust yourself to take those risks. I think also another good tip is to be consistent, because I know when I am personally looking at designers pages or accounts I think seeing their different vibes or themes throughout all of their work is why I choose to follow them. After reading “DO: Use Plenty of White Space” I was a bit confused still, because I didn’t fully understand what the author meant by using white space.
